A 72-year-old woman has been found deceased at the address of the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx police said.
An NYPD spokesperson told Norwood News that, as first reported by News 12 The Bronx, at 6.49 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, officers responded to a 911 call regarding an aided person at 2900 Southern Boulevard [the address for NYBG].
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 72-year-old aided female, unconscious and unresponsive,” she said. “EMS pronounced the aided deceased at the scene.”
Police said the medical examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation remains ongoing. We asked if it was known where exactly at NYBG the body was discovered and who discovered it. The NYPD press team said they were unable to confirm.

News 12 The Bronx had shared a name for the deceased woman [which Norwood News is not disclosing until such time as it has been officially confirmed the victim’s family has been notified] and that she had been found with trauma to her hands and head. We asked the NYPD press office if they could corroborate the latter point and they said they could not at this time.
At the last 52nd Precinct Community Council meeting of the year held Thursday, December 18, Deputy Inspector Chase Maneri confirmed the death was not being treated as suspicious and the woman seemingly had had mental health difficulties.
As reported, police said human remains were also found in Van Cortlandt Park, north of Norwood at around 11.30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, near the Major Deegan Expressway. A police spokesperson said, “When the officer got to the scene, he observed what appeared to be human remains in a wooded area.” Police said the investigation is ongoing.
