Police have arrested a 56-year-old man in relation to the stabbing of a cab driver in November. The New York Federation of Taxi Drivers (NYSFTD) had held a press conference in The Bronx on Nov. 26, the same day as the stabbing to call for justice for a driver who they said was critically injured in the early morning incident in The Bronx, and to announce a $5,000 reward for information on the perpetrator.
Police said that on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at around 2.33 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding an assault that had taken place at the intersection of Randall Avenue and White Plains Road.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered a 39-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, with multiple stab wounds to the back and lower abdomen,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition but was upgraded to stable.”
Police said at the time that there were no arrests and the investigation remained ongoing. Anyone with information was urged to contact NYPD detectives, Crime Stoppers at 800 577 TIPS, or NYSFTD at (718) 559 0216.
Speaking at 90 Lincoln Avenue in the Mott Haven section of The Bronx on Nov. 26, Fernando Mateo, spokesperson for NYSFTD said the “savage attack” had sparked a citywide manhunt.
He said at the time that taxi driver Osei Kusi was stabbed multiple times and left for dead near Randall Avenue and White Plains Road in the Castle Hill section of the borough and was in critical condition at Jacobi Hospital, where he was undergoing emergency surgery.
Mateo said the NYPD had Kusi’s vehicle and was working to download video that could potentially identify the attacker. He said NYSFTD members were at Jacobi on Nov. 26, monitoring the situation, and that more details on Kusi’s condition and what provoked the attack would be provided in due course.
“This was a vicious attack on a hardworking family man,” Steven Rivera, president of NYSTD, said. “We need the public’s help to catch whoever did this.” Mateo added, “This was an attempted murder and a danger to every New Yorker. Someone out there knows something and must come forward.
Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police later said that Darin Dominick of Lafayette Avenue in The Bronx was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 8.20 a.m. in the confines of the 43rd Precinct, which covers Westchester Avenue, Castle Hill Avenue, White Plains Road, and Parkchester.
They said he was and charged with assault. He is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
