The New York Lottery announced there were multiple top-prize winning tickets sold for the May 24 TAKE 5 drawing, with winning tickets sold in The Bronx and Brooklyn at the following locations:

  • 1701 Grocery Corp located at 1701 Unionport Road in the vicinity of Van Nest in The Bronx, which sold one prize-winning ticket worth $27,933.50
  • Clary Deli Grocery Corp located at 85 Euclid Avenue in Brooklyn, which sold one prize-winning ticket worth $27,933.50

TAKE 5 numbers are drawn from a field of one through 39. Drawings take place every evening at 10:30 p.m. Winning tickets at all prize levels may be cashed up to one year from the date of the drawing.

According to New York Lottery officials, the lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable lottery, contributing $3.38 billion in fiscal year 2019-2020 to help support education in New York State. Officials say New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula as used to distribute other state aid to education, taking into account both a school district’s size and its income level. Larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of lottery school funding.

New Yorkers struggling with a gambling addiction, or who know someone who is, can find help by calling the State’s toll-free, confidential HOPEline at 1-877-8-HOPENY (1-877-846-7369) or by texting HOPENY (467369) Standard rates may apply.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
