LPC Designates Aqueduct Walk as Bronx’s First Scenic Landmark in Unanimous Vote

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) celebrated the 50th anniversary of scenic landmarks in New York City with a unanimous vote to designate Old Croton Aqueduct Walk, located in University Heights, as The Bronx’s first scenic landmark, and the twelfth scenic landmark designated citywide. The vote and announcement, which as reported, took place on April 16, marks 50 years to the day since the commission designated Central Park as New York City’s first scenic landmark on April 16, 1974.

UPDATE Friends of Devoe Park Hold “Dancing in Unity” Event

  Friends of Devoe Park (FODP) hosted a “Dancing in Unity Fair,” on Saturday, Sept. 18, in Devoe Park, located in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx. The event featured a face painter, balloon animal artists, a DJ, food provided by Ms. Geneva’s 50/50, an ice cream truck sponsored by Fordham Toyota, and a variety of lawn activities, games, and crafts for children which were organized by the City Parks’ department.   Earl Evans, one of the balloon artists hired for the event, said the kids really enjoyed playing with the balloons and kept coming back to his tent

University Heights: Friends of Aqueduct Walk Partner with Photoville to Document History

As many Bronxites were digesting the latest news and results regarding the presidential election, around 15 volunteers from the University Heights community and Friends of Aqueduct Walk gathered for a park clean-up event along the Old Croton Aqueduct Walk between 183rd Street and Fordham Road on Sunday, Nov. 8. The group also used the occasion to plant a series of crocus bulbs along the route as well.   Friends of Aqueduct Walk member, Samantha Cardenas, told the Norwood News, “The event was hosted in collaboration with Partnership for Parks with Park Catalyst extraordinaire, Pilar Maschi.” Maschi is a “Catalyst” initiative

Friends of Devoe Park Gather for Park Clean-Up & Crocus Bulb Planting Event

  As part of their regular and ongoing efforts to clean-up parks in the Northwest Bronx, and generally to promote a strong community spirit, Friends of Devoe Park (FoDP), along with some members of Northwest Bronx Democrats for Change, gathered, once again, on Saturday, Nov. 7, to take part in a crocus bulb-planting and clean-up event.   This week, they were joined by a representative of Partnership for Parks, a public-private program that, according to their social media page, supports and champions a growing network of leaders who care and advocate for neighborhood parks and green spaces.   The program
