UPDATE Norwood & School District 10 Among First for Free Childcare This Fall  

In what was described as a major step toward universal childcare for children aged six weeks to five years of age, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced March 3 the first four communities to receive free 2-K seats this fall, and included among them is The Bronx’s School District 10, which covers   Fordham, Belmont, Norwood, Marble Hill, Morris Heights, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, Van Cortlandt Village and Kingsbridge as well as parts of Kingsbridge Heights, Bedford Park, Mount Hope, Claremont- Bathgate & East Tremont

UPDATE Bronx Daycare Provider & Husband Get 25 Years to Life for Murder of Nicholas Feliz Dominici in Fentanyl Poisoning Case

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Wednesday, March 4, that the operator of a Bronx home daycare center and her husband were each sentenced to 25 years to life in prison by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Margaret Clancy for the accidental death due to fentanyl poisoning of 22-month-old Nicholas Feliz Domenici on Sept. 15, 2023, and for the exposure of three other children to fentanyl who survived the poisoning.

In what was another milestone in a long and painful battle to obtain justice for one-year-old Nicholas Feliz Dominici, who died from an accidental fentanyl overdose on Sept. 15, 2023 at a Kingsbridge Heights daycare center, the infant’s parents, Otoniel Feliz Samboy and Zoila Dominici, hugged through their tears inside a Bronx Criminal Court courtroom on Friday, Nov. 21, when a jury delivered two unanimous guilty verdicts for the couple charged in relation to their son’s death.  

Soundview Killer sentenced to 83 Years for Two Murders and Wounding of One Victim’s Brother

A Bronx man from the Unionport section of the borough was sentenced to 83 years to life in prison for a shooting spree that began with the killing of one person in August 2019 and ended with a second killing, as well as the wounding of the brother of one of the victims in November of the same year.   Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said the defendant, Dane Richardson, 40, of Bruckner Boulevard in Unionport was sentenced by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Margaret Clancy on Thursday, June 22, after a jury had earlier found him guilty of second-degree murder,

Bronx Man Sentenced to 27 Years to Life for Murder of 25-Year-old Lisa Marie Velasquez

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Friday, May 6, that a Bronx man has been sentenced to 27 years to life in prison for the murder and dismemberment of Lisa Marie Velasquez in 2018.   According to the investigation, in the early morning of August 22, 2018, Velasquez, 25, had gone to the apartment that the defendant, Daquan Wheeler, 34, last of 1006 Longfellow Avenue in the Foxhurst section of the South Bronx, shared with co-defendant, Ciara Martinez, the mother of Wheeler’s child. Bronx Man Gets 25 Years for Murdering Girlfriend whose Body was Never Recovered

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Monday, April 18, that a Bronx man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after being found guilty by a jury of second-degree murder for stabbing his girlfriend to death.   According to the investigation, on August 9, 2016, the victim, Juana Alvarez, 52, was reported missing. It is believed she lived with her then-boyfriend Miguel Bonilla, the defendant, and her dog. On August 22, 2016, Bonilla was arrested for not paying his subway fare. Bronx Pastor Who Ran Over & Attacked Ex-Wife with Machete Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Nov. 18 that a Yonkers man has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for running over his estranged wife with a vehicle and stabbing her with a machete in front her two grandchildren in 2019.
