Named Jaxel Rodriguez, the little boy weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and measured 19 inches. Jaxel was born to parents, Lvett Rodriguez and Antonio Guilbert. The baby boy is the couple’s third child. The U.S. Social Security Administration (SAA) recently announced the most popular baby names in New York in 2020, with Liam and Olivia topping the list. At the same time, the agency is encouraging residents to create a My Social Security account online.

The top five girls’ names for 2020 in New York were Olivia, Emma, Sophia, Ava and Isabella, while the top five boys’ names were Liam, Noah, Lucas, Jacob and Ethan. The agency began compiling the baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880.  At the time of a child’s birth, parents supply the name to the agency when applying for a child’s Social Security card, thus making SSA America’s source for the most popular baby names.

In addition to compiling each state’s top baby names, as well as the most popular baby names in the U.S. territories, SSA’s website also has a list of the top 1,000 most popular boys’ and girls’ names for 2020. To see the fastest rising girls’ and boys’ names in 2020, go to www.socialsecurity.gov/news/press/releases/2021/#5-2021-2.

The agency announced last week that Olivia and Liam were also the most popular baby names in the country. How does New York compare to the rest of the country? The agency asks readers to check out its website, www.socialsecurity.gov, to see for themselves.

While online and enjoying the baby names list, SSA is also encouraging residents to create a my Social Security account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount. According to agency officials, my Social Security is a personalized online account for use by residents as they begin their working lives, and can also be used while receiving Social Security benefits.

Agency officials say, by creating a my Social Security account, Social Security beneficiaries will have instant access to their benefit verification letter, payment history, and complete earnings record. Beneficiaries can also change their address, start or change direct deposit information, and request a replacement SSA-1099, online. People receiving benefits can request a replacement Medicare card online also.

People aged 18 and older who are not receiving benefits can also sign up for a my Social Security account to get their personalized online Social Security Statement. According to SSA, the online Statement provides workers with secure and convenient access to their Social Security earnings and benefit information, as well as estimates of future benefits which they can use to plan for their retirement. Residents of most states may request a replacement Social Security card online if they meet certain requirements.
