The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG)’s “Flower Power” Exhibit is currently on display at NYBG and on Saturday, July 25, the associated “Flower Power” Dress Up Day drew fashionistas and hippy chicks from around the city to get their groove on.

Running from May 23 through Oct. 18, visitors to the Flower Power exhibit, described as a joyous celebration of the enduring symbolism of flowers as icons of peace and love, are encouraged to channel the spirit of the ’60s.

“Immerse yourself in a groovy and colorful flower show spotlighting the ways in which hippie culture advanced closer relationships with the natural world, and explore vibrant botanical displays,” an extract from NYBG’s website reads.

According to NYBG, its galleries at the exhibit showcase photography and visual art from the 1960s, while installations on the grounds invite everyone to “come together,” be empowered, and embrace flowers as symbols in our lives.

On July 25, at the Dress-Up Day, participants were encouraged to wear their favorite ’60s-inspired outfits, including bell bottoms, floppy hats, and fringed vests, with prizes awarded after judges chose the grooviest looks from a series of categories.

Meanwhile, in and around the Haupt Conservatory, visitors are encouraged to wander through psychedelic flower displays and art installations that evoke the free-spirited heart of the 1960s “peace and love” movement. “Elsewhere in the Garden, find classic VW buses colorfully decorated for the perfect photo op!” a further extract from NYBG’s site reads.

Various prize winners and happy contestants, Sheyla and Juan Rivera, the Flower Fairy, Niyya Tenee, Fran Goldberg, Danielle Vallat, Hendrix, Indigo Goldberg, and Doris Davis, had plenty of fun posing for photos on July 25.
