According to Citrone’s statement, the two-alarm blaze was “initiated from an electrical outlet that sparked and ignited a mattress.”

Firefighters discovered ‘Collyer’s mansion conditions,’ an FDNY term for a cluttered residence according to Firehouse.com, and reported that debris was piled from floor to ceiling, making it difficult to reach small pockets of fire.

In explaining the term, Firehouse.com made reference to a previous incident where a firefighter from the FDNY had crawled through a “colliers mansion condition” to rescue two occupants and for this was rewarded one of the medals given out during an FDNY medal day presentation.

Fire officials reported one home located next door to the fire location suffered minor damage and three firefighters were treated for minor injuries at area hospitals.
