On Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at approximately 8.20 a.m., police responded to a 911 call about a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian who was struck on the southbound Major Deegan Expressway in the vicinity of Fordham Road, within the confines of the 52nd precinct. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered an unidentified male pedestrian lying on the roadway, with trauma to the body.

EMS responded to the location and pronounced the man deceased at the scene. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2019 white Volkswagen Golf SE, operated by a 28-year-old man, was traveling south bound on the Major Deegan Expressway in the center lane when the pedestrian was attempting to cross the expressway from the west side to the east side.

As a result, the vehicle struck the pedestrian with the front passenger side, causing the male to mount the hood, strike the windshield and fall to the pavement, coming to a rest. The vehicle remained at the scene and the operator was not injured. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

He was just awarded the Darwins’ Metal of stupidity.. Never, ever go into an active highway, and try to cross it, because the consequences are FATAL…Same could be said about railway tracks, because you never know which direction the train will come from.
