Painters & Allied Trades Union to Conduct Three Apprentice Recruitment Drives in Aug & Sept

District Council 9, a chapter of the International Painters & Allied Trades Union, announced on Tuesday, Aug. 2, that it will conduct three formal apprentice recruitment drives beginning Aug. 9. All three recruitment drives are being conducted at the union’s training center based in Long Island City in Queens.

 

The recruitment for Drywall Finisher apprentices will take place from Aug. 9 to 22, and will include the New York City and Long Island regions. The recruitment for Painter, Decorator and Paperhanger apprentices will take place from Aug. 16 to 29, and will include the New York City, Long Island, and Westchester regions. The recruitment for Structural Steel and Bridge Painter Apprentices will take place from Aug. 29 to Sept. 12, and will include the New York City, Long Island, and Hudson Valley regions.

 

The District Council 9 Finishing Trades Institute of New York offers apprentices both on-the-job and in-classroom training to ensure every apprentice is prepared to tackle the complex building market. Each recruitment drive will take place over a ten-day period or until 500 applications are filled, whichever comes first. Applications will be processed in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the District Council 9 Finishing Trades Institute of New York training facility.

We invest in our apprentices by providing them with top-notch training that allows them to build a better New York.” He added, “Our apprentices work hard to become the best they can be, and they represent the future of New York’s unionized construction industry.”

Union officials said, “Applicants must meet certain requirements, including being 18 years of age, holding a high school diploma or equivalent, passing a drug test, being able to hear and understand instructions in English, and being physically able to perform the work of their intended trade.” They added, “For specific requirements by trade, view postings online from the NYS Department of Labor for the Drywall FinishersPainters, Decorators and Paperhangers, and Structural Steel and Bridge Painters recruitments.”

 

District Council 9 is a chapter of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, an organization of painters, decorators, wall coverers, drywall finishers, sign painters, metal polishers, bridge & structural steel painters, civil service painters, lead abatement workers, glaziers & architectural metal glassworkers, paint makers and allied trades. The union is dedicated to securing and improving wages, benefits, and overall working conditions for its members.
