A public garage in Bedford Park that partially collapsed in early 2017 has come down via demolition. A posted sign indicates the property will be converted into retail space, nixing the prospect of a garage once again. Owners plan to rebuild the space at 3000 Jerome Ave. just near Bedford Park Boulevard. Residents passing by the clear lot hope owners consider a parking lot. A Norwood resident died in a hit-and-run accident on Sept 30 between Jerome Avenue and East 233rd Street, near the Major Deegan Expressway. Another Norwood resident has been charged with manslaughter in the driver’s death. Ramon Monteagudo, 59, of East 203rd Street was killed while driving his 1995 Toyota sedan northbound on Jerome Avenue when he collided with 24-year-old driver Collin Hedley, who was driving southbound and on the wrong side of the road, according to police. The mother of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz and City Councilman Ritchie Torres announced that a cease and desist letter from the state has been sent to a known con-artist who posed as a government official in an attempt to defraud Junior’s family. The man, whose name is being withheld by the Norwood News out of concern over any reprisals, is a resident at the recently opened men’s only homeless shelter at 3600 Jerome Ave., in front of Van Cortlandt Park. Cops have released video of a suspect wanted for allegedly touching a 12-year-old girl after taking her pictures and grabbing her backside. The incident happened Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. in the area of Jerome Avenue and West 193rd Street in Fordham, cops said. After the suspect grabbed her he quickly ran off on Jerome Avenue. He was captured on surveillance video. The suspect is described as light-skinned, standing at 5′ 5″ and weighing around 160 pounds with dark hair and brown eyes.
