With coronavirus vaccines now being distributed, advocates for people living with disabilities are stressing the importance of knowing if they are at increased risk of COVID-19. People with certain disabilities or on medications with particular side effects are more vulnerable to the effects of the virus, and people in nursing homes or group housing are more likely to become infected. Montefiore Medical Center vaccinated its first Montefiore employee with the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Gina Benvenuto, RN, a 36-year-old patient care coordinator at the neuro-intensive care unit who has been with the hospital for 14 years, was the first employee to receive the vaccine. The vaccination process continued thereafter among other Montefiore employees. Pediatric providers at six Montefiore School Health Program clinics are using new rapid testing to determine if children in school have the flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) or COVID-19. RSV is a common, and very contagious, virus that infects the respiratory tract of most children before their second birthday. The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals seen in the attached video and photographs in connection with a robbery that occurred in the 52nd precinct in Norwood. It was reported to police that on Saturday, Dec. 19, at around 3.41 p.m., at 3322 Decatur Avenue, one of the suspects approached an 18-year-old male victim as he was seated inside his vehicle. The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Luis Liberato-Abreu, 24, of 1204 Shakespeare Avenue, Apt 6E in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, who was reported missing in the 42nd precinct. Liberato-Abreu was last seen at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, located at 1265 Franklin Avenue in the Morrisania section of the Bronx on Friday, Dec. 18, at 4.30 p.m. He is described as male, Hispanic and was last seen wearing an orange jacket. The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) announced that residential trash and recycling collection has resumed since Friday, Dec. 18. Residents who have placed material curbside for collection should leave that material out, and residents who have held back material should put it out for collection. The department has asked residents to clear any snow from atop or around containers to make it easier for the crews.
