Report: After Crash, Bronx Woman Stabbed to Death By Ex-Flame

Police responding to a call of an overturned vehicle at just before 4 a.m. today on the northbound New England Thruway at the Pelham Parkway exit, discovered the body of 20-year old Parkchester resident Katherine German, who had been stabbed several times. German’s 31-year old ex-boyfriend, Daniel Espinal, was taken into custody at the scene. Police say Espinal, a cabbie with Kiss Car Service who had a small child with German, had run the SUV German was traveling in with another man off the thruway.

Bronx Officials Applaud Ruling That Stop-and-Frisk Is Unconstitutional

In ruling on two class-action lawsuits last week, federal Judge Shira Scheindlin blasted the New York City Police Department’s rampant use of stop-and-frisk tactics as unconstitutional and appointed a federal monitor to oversee reform efforts — a move that several Bronx lawmakers supported and the mayor vehemently opposed.

Four Years Later, Oval Park Center Still Closed for Renovations

Tancy Rodriguez moved to the Norwood area four years ago. During her entire residence in the community, the Williamsbridge Oval Park recreation center, long known as a bustling hub of neighborhood activity and safe haven for local youth, has been closed. “I want my son to enjoy the activities at the rec center, but it’s just not open,” she said during a “peaceful protest” outside of the closed center on a recent Friday afternoon.

North Central Bronx Shuts Down Labor and Delivery Units

Jahir, 32, and his pregnant wife, who live in the apartment across the street from North Central Bronx Hospital in Norwood, were the first to be turned away following the official closure of the facility’s labor and delivery, nursery, and neonatal care units last Monday.
