During Frigid Overnight, Elderly Woman Dies in Bedford Park Blaze

A fire in Bedford Park has claimed the life of a 78-year-old woman in one of the coldest weeks this winter season. EMS and fire crews rushed to 2874 Grand Concourse to battle the blaze that began in her kitchen just before 3:30am in frigid temperatures, according to police. The victim was pronounced dead on scene with no other reported injuries, said police. The FDNY typically sees an uptick in fires during the height of the winter season as temperatures plunge and residents seek to warm up their apartments.
