St. Barnabas Hospital and the Belmont Business Improvement District will hold a street fair, “Picture a Healthier You,” which will include fun and healthy activities, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Crescent Avenue between Adams Place and Belmont Avenue. Events include blood pressure, mammography screenings, healthy cooking demos, exercises, raffles, and giveaways. Hospital doctors, nurses and dietitians will be on hand, and healthy snacks and health care materials will be distributed. For more information, call (718) 960-6375. 

Saint Ann’s School will hold its Spring Show at PS 94, 3530 Kings College Place on May 25 at 6 p.m. only for parents of children who attend Saint Ann’s. The event is not open to the public. For more information, call (718) 655-3449.

University Neighborhood Housing Program (UNHP) will hold its free ViewsNWBX Affordable Housing Forum on June 15 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Serviam Gardens, 323 E. 198th St. to discuss Bronx happenings including community development, demographics, multifamily housing sales, and more. People Power Movement will perform guerrilla theatre to illustrate the criminality of negligent landlords and protest community displacement. The street performance and community speak out is on June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hunts Point Plaza, and June 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Graham Triangle. Free reading materials will be distributed. The performances are meant to dramatize the failure of the justice system to properly deal with landlords who disregard their tenants, many of whom are working poor and minorities. Wave Hill, a Bronx oasis at 675 W. 252nd St. in Riverdale, offers Family Art Projects: Palisades in Plaster, to create sculptural rock formation, May 27 and 28; and Rainbow Passage, to create a spectrum with transparent material to make into bright window hangings, June 3 and 4; both in the WH House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grounds admission is free until noon Saturdays and Tuesdays all year. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
