The New York Botanical Garden presents Bronx Day, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Garden’s Clay Family Picnic Pavilions. The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) presents Free Food Truck Extravaganza Weekend, Bryan Park (East Fordham and Kingsbridge roads), May 28 to 30 from noon to 7 p.m. featuring a variety of cuisines. Wave Hill, a Bronx oasis at 675 W. 252nd St. in Riverdale, offers Family Art Projects: Telling Nature and Family Stories, to share WH stories and recreate them using mixed media, May 30 and 31; and Weather and Washes Outdoors, to view art, then make your own, June 6 and 7; both in WH House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grounds admission is free until noon Saturdays and Tuesdays all year. The public is invited to ride the free Bronx Culture Trolley, which transports visitors on the first Wednesday of every month (except January and September), to free Bronx hot spots. Trolley night starts with a 5 p.m. reception at the Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College, 450 Grand Concourse (at 149th St.). From there, the trolley departs at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Next ride is on June 3. Riders can get on and off at any scheduled stop and spend as much time as they wish at any or all of the featured venues. Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
