Olinville: 25-Year-Old Man Shot Multiple Times

On April 18, 2021 at 12.40 in the afternoon, a 25-year-old man was shot multiple times inside a building located at 3602 Holland Avenue.

The NYPD has confirmed that a 25-year-old man was shot “multiple times” inside a Holland Avenue apartment building in Olinville on Monday, while providing few details of the incident. Olinville falls under the purview of the 47th precinct.

 

In a two-sentence statement released by the NYPD hours after the shooting, the statement read, “On April 18, 2021 at 12.40 [in the afternoon] a 25-year-old male was shot multiple times inside of 3602 Holland Avenue. He was transported to Montefiore Hospital in critical condition.”

According to police radio transmissions the same day, the unidentified victim was shot in the head and chest. Police requested that the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit search the building and they also requested a helicopter search the rooftop for the assailant, who remained at large.

 

As reported previously by Norwood News, police are still looking for the gunman who shot a 34-year-old man on November 22, 2020 at East 215th Street and Holland Avenue, also in Olinville. That victim was shot twice in the chest and once in the leg, but miraculously survived. Police said at the time of that incident that the victim was being “uncooperative” with the investigation.

 

According to the latest NYPD crime statistics, the Bronx has recorded 31 homicides in 2021, year to date, as of April 18, compared with 26 during the same time period in 2020. Police crime statistics also show that 109 people have been shot in the Bronx so far this year, compared with 51 during the same time period last year.

 

The NYPD has also logged eight hate crimes so far in 2021. Meanwhile, eight hate crimes were reported from Jan. 1 through April 18, 2020.

 

In the 47th precinct, which covers Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Edenwald, Olinville, Fishbay, and Woodlawn Cemetary, two murders have been recorded in 2021, as of April 18, versus seven in 2020 during the same time period. In terms of shooting victims, there have been 14 recorded in the precinct, as of April 18, versus five during the same period last year. There were no hate crimes recorded in the precinct in 2020, and one reported in 2021, so far.

In the 52nd precinct, which covers Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Bronx Park, and University Heights, one murder has been recorded so far in 2021, as of April 18, as reported by Norwood News, while none were recorded during the same period in 2020. Meanwhile, there have been ten shooting victims recorded in the precinct so far in 2021, as of April 18, versus three during the same period last year. In terms of hate crimes, one has been reported in the precinct so far this year, as of April 18, versus none for the same time period last year.

 

In the 50th precinct, which covers Riverdale, Fieldston, Kingsbridge, Marble Hill, and Spuyten Duyvil, and includes Wave Hill and Cortlandt Park, to date, there have been no murders recorded in 2021, as of April 18, while one was recorded during the same period in 2020. There has been one shooting victim recorded in the precinct, versus three during the same time period last year. Meanwhile, hate crimes were equal, with one hate crime reported so far in the precinct in 2021 and one having been recorded during the same time period last year.

 

On Monday, April 18, Police Commissioner Dermot Shea announced the creation of a new hate crime review panel, a partnership with a diverse panel of community leaders as part of the NYPD’s efforts to curb hate crimes.
