NY-13 News Roundup

About a quarter of the new 13th Congressional District is in the Bronx.

We were going to put this at the end of the Bronx News Roundup, but with just 12 days until the primary on June 26 we decided these links to stories on the 13th Congressional District race deserved their own post. Here they are:

WNYC recaps our Monday night debate on BronxNet … Daily News has a recap too, focusing on Rangel’s absence … In an interview with Juan Williams, Rangel said Espaillat lacks support from Latino elected officials (which isn’t really true, Politicker points out) … Rangel also talked with conservative talk show host Sean Hannity … NPR has an overview of the race … Espaillat picked up the endorsement of El Diario … The Riverdale Press editorializes about Rangel’s absence at the debate Monday night, with this bottom line: “Regardless of the reason for his absence, forsaking our borough during the campaign raises serious questions as to whether Mr. Rangel would represent it well in Congress.” … Here’s RivPress’ story on the debate … The Post reports that there are petitions circulating for a possible re-election bid for Espaillat in the State Senate (Espaillat has said he would not seek re-election to his senate position.)

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
