Norwood: Police Respond to Shots Fired Apparently inside East Gun Hill Road Building

An afternoon shooting inside a residential building on East Gun Hill Road in Norwood resulted in no injuries police said.

 

In response to an inquiry from Norwood News on Sunday afternoon, April 16, following sight of police and detective presence at 234 East Gun Hill Road at around 3.30 / 4 p.m., a police spokesperson said, “Confirmed shots fired. No injuries. Property damage only.”

Norwood News had earlier interviewed some residents of the building and also a few local businesses in the area but nobody had any further information about what happened and had not heard any shots or seen anything unusual.

A police emergency services unit arrived at the scene at one point and two officers were seen carrying what looked like a chainsaw and a emergency medical kit into the building.

One female resident of the building complex, which comprises 234 and 236 East Gun Hill Road, Maribel, said police were later seen on the third floor removing furniture from one of the apartments.

Users of the Citizens’ App had earlier reported that a man had allegedly entered the building and had shot a man inside. We asked the NYPD if they could confirm if there was indeed a break-in.

The NYPD press team said they didn’t have any further information on the incident at this time. We will therefore update this story upon receipt of any further information we receive.

AN NYPD EMERGENCY service unit was seen parked closed to 234 East Gun Hill Road in Norwood on Sunday afternoon, April 16, 2023. Personnel later entered the building and a third-floor apartment carrying what looked like a chainsaw and emergency medical equipment.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that police said “Confirmed no shots fired.” In fact police confirmed that there were shots fired but no injuries. As above, we await more information from the NYPD as to whether or not there was a break-in.
