The NYPD bomb squad responded to a bomb scare in the Williamsbridge Oval in the Norwood section of The Bronx on Thursday morning, Dec. 8, at around 11 a.m. police said.

 

Speaking in Spanish, a resident of 3320 Reservoir Oval East told Norwood News a section of the park in front of her building, located between the park entrance closest to Holt Place and the park entrance closest to Reservoir Place (opposite the skate park), had been cordoned off by police that morning while they investigated the incident. The resident, who declined to be identified, added, that the investigation wrapped up around 12.30 p.m.

An NYPD spokeswoman later told Norwood News, “The only thing that was updated here in reference to that is that the grenade has been deemed inert. It’s a toy.”

 

Asked if the toy had been placed in a bag, the spokeswoman added, “When we first got the notification, the grenade was discovered by [NYC] Park employees next to the entrance of the park but it doesn’t mention anything about a bag.”

 

A regular NYPD patrol vehicle was seen entering and parking in the same section of the park a bit later at around 13.53 p.m.

Norwood News spoke to a number of other local residents and park goers at around the same time but none had been present earlier for the incident or had seen anything suspicious.
