Update: 10-Year-Old Missing Girl, Leila Aracena, Found Safe & Reunited with Family in Norwood

An unofficial report on the Citizen’s app, dated Wednesday, Dec. 2, advised that a search for a 10-year-old girl in the Norwood section of the Bronx was underway. One user of the app posted a video of this photo in relation to the alert. Citizen could not confirm if the photo was of the 10-year-old girl or not. Police have, in the meantime, officially confirmed that 10-year-old Leila Aracena has been reported missing from her home at 3525 Perry Avenue in the Norwood section of the Bronx. Police subsequently confirmed the validity of the photo as being of Leila.

Police reported that Leila Aracena was found “safe and in good condition”, Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at approximately 12.20 p.m. She has been reunited with her family.

 

On Wednesday, Dec 2, 2020, at approximately 10.52 p.m., there was an unofficial report on the Citizen’s App of an incident on E. Gun Hill Road and Perry Avenue that police were searching for a 10-year-old girl, described as Latina, 5 foot, 2 inches tall, with hair in pigtails, and last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a red T-shirt and red sandals.

 

According to the app, at 11.09 p.m., police reportedly requested a specialized unit to the vicinity to assist with the search. At 11.20 p.m., the app reported that citizen app user, goyarice, circulated a video showing a photo of the girl, and said it could not confirm if the photo was video of the photo of the girl was valid or not.

 

At 11.21 p.m., Citizen user, Alex27480 posted a video showing a police vehicle at the scene. At 11.41 p.m., Citizen reported that the police had requested an aviation unit, a helicopter, to search the vicinity for the girl.

 

Norwood News contacted the official press office for the NYPD to check if an official report was available and was advised the office did not have anything on file for the 52nd precinct, which covers the Norwood district, at that time, but that it was possible the precinct may have been responding directly to the incident, and to check back later.

At 2.23 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 3, Citizen reported that the police reported that they did not find the girl, and were ending their search for the time being.

 

At 2.44 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, Citizen reported that police received an updated clothing description for the girl. She was last seen wearing black tights, black and white, with red, Air Jordan 11 sneakers, and a puffy, gray, Michael Kors jacket. Citizen subsequently reported that the police said her hair is black, and was styled in two pigtails.

 

There was no official report from the NYPD as of the time of publication.

 

At 3.21 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 3, police officially reported that 10-year-old girl, Leila Arcena, went missing from her residence at 3525 Perry Avenue in Norwood, in the 52nd precinct, at around 23.22 p.m on Wednesday, Dec.2.

 

Police said Leila was not believed to be the victim of a crime, and it was understood she walked out of her residential building intentionally. She is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, is of a medium build, and her clothing description at the time she was last seen was confirmed as grey sweatpants, red T-shirt and red sandals. Her hair was tied in two pigtails.

 

A further official police report was issued at 7.41 on Thursday, Nov. 3. Police appealed to the public for help and said Leila had been last seen on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m. hours inside of her home, at 3525 Perry Avenue. She was described as a female Hispanic, 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with a medium build, light complexion and brown hair and eyes. They said she was last seen wearing a puffy silver jacket, black leggings and red and black Jordan sneakers.
