Mt Hope: Death of 5-Year-Old Twins inside East 175th Street Building Ruled a Homicide

Police said on March 15 that the death of two 5-year-old twins found unresponsive inside their home in Mt. Hope in December 2023 has been ruled a homicide.

 

A police spokesperson said that on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at around 11.21 a.m., officers from the 46th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding an aided child at 240 East 175th Street.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 5-year-old male and a 5-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, inside an apartment at the location,” a police spokesperson said.

 

“EMS responded and pronounced the aided children deceased at the scene.”

Police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner would determine the cause of death, and the investigation remained ongoing.

 

On March 15, police said the children’s deaths had been ruled a homicide. More to follow.

According to a plaque affixed to the building in which the children were located, it is called “The Snowbell.” The victims were later identified as George and Gianna Kantanka, both 5 years of age, of 240 East 175th Street.

 

Police said on March 15 that the death of two 5-year-old twins found unresponsive inside their home in Mt. Hope in December 2023 has been ruled a homicide.

 

On Saturday, March 30, police reported that a 2-year-old boy was grazed with a bullet in crossfire while walking with his mother on East Fordham Road and the Grand Concourse in Fordham Manor, and was later hospitalized. He is expected to survive.
