Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Tuesday, Feb. 22, that a man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of his 73-year-old uncle in his South Bronx apartment in June 2018, and for fatally stabbing a woman in a security firm office in the Wakefield section of the Bronx a month later.

Clark said the defendant, Idris Abdul Muhaymin, 49, originally from Georgia, was sentenced to 24 years in prison, and five years of post-release supervision by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Ralph Fabrizio. Muhaymin pleaded guilty to both manslaughter charges on Jan. 4.

According to the investigation, Muhaymin went to the home of Owen Dillard, 73, of Beekman Avenue in Mott Haven on June 11, 2018. There, he demanded money from the victim, who had recently won the lottery. Muhaymin put Dillard in a chokehold and stabbed him multiple times with a sharp object. The victim sustained wounds to his head and neck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Video surveillance shows the defendant entering and leaving the victim’s home. He also took a few dollars from the victim.

On July 11, 2018, while Muhaymin was on the run from authorities, he entered MNI Security Specialist Inc., located at 888 East 233rd Street in Wakefield, where the second victim, Wanda Rios, 45, a family friend of Muhaymin worked. Video surveillance shows Rios letting Muhaymin into the establishment. There, he stabbed her repeatedly with a sharp object, causing her death. He later fled the scene, along with some electronic equipment. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

In the context of the announcement, Clark said, “The defendant mercilessly killed his elderly uncle, who had been battling cancer, and had won the lottery, for only a few dollars.” She added, “Exactly a month later, the defendant went to the workplace of a woman considered to be a family friend and fatally stabbed her. The defendant’s actions left a child without a mother and a husband without a wife. I hope today’s sentence brings some sense of relief to the families of the victims.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Felicity Lung, homicide counsel in the child abuse/sex crimes bureau, under the supervision of Rachel Ferrari, chief of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau, and under the overall supervision of Adrienne Giunta, deputy chief of the special victims division, and Joseph Muroff, chief of the special victims division.

Clark thanked trial preparation assistant, Anthony Okaneme, of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau, as well as NYPD Detective Javier Cordero of the 40th precinct, NYPD Detective Robert Connor of the 47th precinct, and NYPD Detective John Ferretti and NYPD Detective Sean O’Leary, both of the Bronx homicide unit, for their assistance in the case.

He murdered two people and only received 24 years… And goes to show you our lives are worthless. If he would have murdered two police officers or two people of prestige. He definitely would have gotten in life just for killing them one of them. But working people are worthless court system. Sad the way this country has changed so much for the worst. God blesses all. 🙏
