Norwood News Vol. 28 No. 12 (Front Page)

By DAVID CRUZ

The Norwood News is once again out with a new edition available online and across the northwest Bronx and filled with plenty of community news you can use! We begin with a micro-local story that can play out anywhere–the “in-stall-ation” of speed hump on a street that’s at both a Neighborhood Slow Zone and school zone. Neighbors are in an uproar over a year-long delay, especially after a vehicle recently plowed in three parked cars before turning over. Find out what the commotion is about.

We also delve into the existing rent protection laws that are slated to expire June 15. Find out what the most pressing laws are and what the politics are.

This edition also showcases the work of students from the Bronx Youth Heard journalism program, a 12-week workshop for high school students

For some more lighthearted news, read up on developments for the Westchester Square Business Improvement District, where executive director Lisa Sorin has pushed to make the corridor commercially viable while also taking on the BID’s upcoming Fair @ The Square celebrations.

We also have your regular features–Out & About, Inquiring Photographer, Neighborhood Notes and In The Public Interest (The Bronx Beltway’s taking a break this edition). So check out the latest edition of the Norwood News. You’ll be surprised what you learn!

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
