Knickknacks and Novelties for Sale at Bedford Park Church, and It’s for a Good Cause

out-about-photo-3A beloved flea market run by the Bedford Park Congregational Church is back and better than ever, offering bargains on a number of items as part of its Annual Fun Fair set for Oct. 22.

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3008 Bainbridge Ave. next to East 201st Street. This is the church’s major fundraiser of the year and has been running for several decades. The fair doubles as an opportunity for the community to contribute to the church, as well as a fun way for people to buy things uncommon in mainstream stores.

“It’s a symbiotic back and forth type of thing,” said Annette Porter, a church volunteer and member of the board. “A lot of people say it’s the best flea market in the neighborhood, they’re helping us and they enjoy it.”

Porter has been seen going up and down the neighborhood posting fliers over the last week, on the hopes of attracting a crowd.

Last year the turnout was around a couple hundred people, and this year the church hopes for an even bigger draw. Raffles, homemade food, plants, toys and other household items are some of the things that can be found at the flea market.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Bedford Park Congregational Church by having fun and taking advantage of some great deals.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
