Council Member Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11), alongside other elected and city-appointed officials, joined administrators, teachers, and students from Walton Campus in Kingsbridge Heights on Friday, April 17, to cut the ribbon on a brand new athletic field.

Located at 2780 Reservoir Avenue, adjacent to the Kingsbridge Armory, Walton Campus comprises five high schools, The High School for Teaching and the Professions, Discovery High School, the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, the Kingsbridge International High School, and The International High School for Liberal Arts.

The council member was joined on the day by New York City Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Schools Deputy Chancellor of Operations Kevin Moran, and UFT President Michael Mulgrew to mark what was described by his team as a $2 million investment in Bronx students, which the council member secured in Fiscal Year ‘26.

A representative from Dinowitz’s office described the new athletic field as a state-of-the-art field, “where students can compete, build teamwork and confidence,” and “create memories to last a lifetime.” Notably, the representative said that the field is the only standalone field in The Bronx with lighting, making it a choice destination for both student athletes across the city, as well as members of the community who want to enjoy outdoor recreation.

The representative said that lighting allows for expanded practice hours and safer play at night, while the old, cracked, dirt field was not just ugly, but had the potential to cause injuries. The representative said that every child, irrespective of their home borough, should have access to the same high-quality school facilities, and the latest renovation is now making this a reality for Walton High School students.

The representative went on to say that with this latest investment, the council member is continuing his mission to ensure every high school student in the district can feel proud of the school they attend.

“When I was a teacher at the Walton Campus, I saw the need for better facilities every day, but I knew it would take a seat in the NYC Council to make it a reality,” Dinowitz said. “After I left the classroom to represent my students at City Hall, I made a promise that my work would support them even more than my daily lessons, and today, I am thrilled to cut the ribbon on a brand new, $2 million turf field that will instill confidence in our student athletes and strengthen our community.”

He added, “Walton High School has long served as a vital educational institution. It’s a place where students learn, grow, connect with each other, and discover their passions. Now, we have a field that our scholars truly deserve and will bring light to our community for years to come.”

As reported, Walton High School got a brand new library in April 2025.
