On Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021 at around 8.58 p.m, police responded to a 911 call regarding a pedestrian who had been hit by a moving vehicle at the intersection of Broadway and West 231st Street, in the 50th precinct.

Upon arrival at the location, police discovered a 73-year-old woman lying on the pavement, with trauma to the head. EMS responded and transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital Center where she was pronounced deceased on Friday, Feb. 19.

A preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle that had been traveling south hit the woman, who had been pushing a shopping cart while walking northbound in the southbound lane, against vehicular traffic. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.

The family of the deceased has not been notified.

Anyone with information with regard to the incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
