Job Summary
Norwood News , a bi-weekly newspaper covering the Bronx, seeks a dynamite sales person to increase advertising revenue and offer assistance on in-house responsibilities for the newspaper. Norwood News, an award winning bi-weekly newspaper produced by Mosholu Preservation Corporation (an affiliate not-for-profit of Montefiore Health System), was established in 1988. It covers the Norwood section of the Bronx and its surrounding communities. The ideal candidate is a go-getter with some sales experience and excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Identify and attract prospective advertisers, which includes cold calling
• Cultivate prospective advertisers that could include business owners, institutions, representatives of New York City or New York State government and its agencies, or the general public
• Meet with and present to prospective leads
• Maintain accurate record of sales, advertising contracts and sales leads
• Collaborate with editor-in-chief on special sections
• Work with freelance designer to craft presentation of ads
• Draft advertorial content for loyal client base
• Insure ads are running per edition and service all accounts
• Send online tear sheets and bills to advertisers
• Identify key marketing/advertising decision-makers
• Target advertisers where Norwood News distributes newspaper

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum education is at least an undergraduate degree preferably in business
• At least one year of working in sales, preferably at a newspaper
• Deep understanding of power of local newspaper advertising
• Professional and courteous attitude
• Proven organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Tech-savvy with knowledge of social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to close the deal
• A winning attitude
• A plus: Excellent news writing ability with understanding of AP Style format

Benefits

Hourly rate of $22 per hour plus commission in the form of a quarterly bonus
