Jerome Park: Search for Missing DeWitt Clinton High School Employee

CHRISTOPHER CORCORAN, 61, a longtime janitor employed at DeWitt Clinton High School, located in Jerome Park, has been reported missing by his family.

According to a New Rochelle police captain, multiple law enforcement agencies are looking for a New Rochelle man and longtime janitor employed at DeWitt Clinton High School, located in the Jerome Park section of The Bronx, who disappeared without a trace nearly one month ago.

 

According to two fliers circulated by the man’s family and the New Rochelle Police Department, Christopher Corcoran, 61, left his home on Shore Road in New Rochelle, N.Y., at 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and has not been seen since.

Corcoran is 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighs 115 pounds, has blue eyes and a gray goatee. He was last seen wearing a mid-length, green, canvas jacket with a hood, royal blue pants, and black shoes. According to one flier, Corcoran may be “disoriented.”

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Captain J. Collins Coyne of the New Rochelle Police Department told Norwood News, “Our detectives have used, I believe, State (police), NYPD, Harbor Patrol, and used a bunch of different, multi-agencies during this investigation. It’s a pretty extensive search we’ve done for him.”

Captain Coyne added, “We’ve done extensive searches, wooded areas all the way through The Bronx. Inter-agency cooperation has been obtained. We’ve given information out and not only did a lot of calls go out, but actual leg work of the detectives, going to various places, looking for potential video, and interviewing witnesses.”

 

WHEN NORWOOD NEWS visited DeWitt Clinton High School, located on Mosholu Parkway South in Jerome Avenue in The Bronx, on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, some students we spoke to were unaware that longtime janitor Christopher Corcoran, 61, had disappeared nearly a month ago.

On Tuesday, Dec. 8, Corcoran’s sister, Ellen, told the Norwood News that her brother has been a custodian at DeWitt Clinton High School for about the last 20 years and had never gone missing before. Ellen recalled, “He went to school that day, and then that night, he hadn’t slept in a long time. He had a stomach problem and his health…he lost weight, and he wasn’t sleeping and the video shows him agitated.”

Multiple calls to DeWitt Clinton High School regarding Corcoran were not returned. As police continue searching for Corcoran, his mother and four sisters pray for his safe return home. Anyone with any information on Corcoran’s whereabouts is asked to call the New Rochelle Police Department at (914) 654-2300.

 

On Dec. 27, a Facebook user who is a former alum of the school and who works at NYC Department of Education wrote a post on Facebook along with a photo of Corcoran, writing, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Chris Corcoran. Chris had been with Clinton since the early 90s and was always a pleasure to be around. To know him was to love him. May his soul rest in peace.”
