This week, we asked readers for their thoughts on former U.S. President Donald Trump becoming the first former president of the United States to be indicted on federal charges.

“Well, if he did something wrong, he should be indicted. He seems like he’s scattered by one thing after another. I think he should be held responsible for it all. Will he be convicted? It’s hard to say because he has good lawyers and sometimes, he gets out of some things; it’s possible.”

“Donald Trump is a person with every right accorded [to] someone accused of a crime under United States law. He is entitled to every facet of due process under the sixth amendment. These are rights he was very quick to deny the Central Park Five. With that said, the video and photographic evidence that is publicly available seems to make a very strong case against him. Personally, I can’t stand the guy and never have, but I want equal justice under the law, even for people I can’t take the sight of.”

“The two main candidates [U.S. President Joe] Biden and the one that’s running, the most popular candidate, are not for the people. I don’t trust them. We need to stop believing in the government, and we, the people, should depend on each other, and help and assist just like our heavenly father. No, it’s all bull—t, it’s all fake; they’re both for lies. Yes, [former U.S. President Donald] Trump is pretending that he’s for the people, like when he was president. It’s like a game they’re playing and the ones that are behind them, the puppeteers, which I call demonic, they control them. We freakin’ need real candidates.”

“I feel like his indictment is stupid. He was one of the greatest presidents. I also feel like they are just mad, after everything they have said about Trump was not true; it can’t be. He only wanted to help the world and help his people. He was a great president because he helped us instead of making his country worry or suffer, and he had more concerns and always defended the U.S., and he never disowned us. I think that Trump will win the case and become president again. I’m voting for him.”

“I think he is guilty and should go to jail. I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. I don’t care, I want him locked up. The first time he was in the newspaper was because his family violated the law pertaining to housing discrimination, which illustrates that he has never had respect for the law.”

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
