This week we asked readers to pick out where some of the borough’s most harrowing potholes can be found following a dismal winter.

Inq_Photo-1Personally, I think the worst potholes are in the Boston Road area in the South Bronx. It’s pretty bad especially in the winter time. The potholes can be treacherous. It’s gotten better, but still some areas are still really, really bad. I think most of it comes from all of the construction going on. It’s gotten a lot better, but there can still be some improvement.

Inq_Photo-2There are a lot of holes along the Major Deegan Expressway from Van Cortlandt Park all the way upstate in Westchester. They haven’t been fixing them. Many of the local streets are bad; the balance of my tires is off from hitting all the big potholes. I think it’s been a harsh winter, but they’re also not fixing them fast enough.

Inq_Photo-3Bedford Park by Lehman College is pretty bad. It’s been a harsh winter, but I don’t see them out here making the repairs.

Inq_Photo-4I know I go down Goulden Avenue every day and that street is pretty bad. Fordham Road, Kingsbridge Road, they’re all in bad shape. I have to avoid potholes and cars have to avoid potholes and it makes for a dangerous situation. Sometimes cars just decide to go to the other side of the street to avoid the pothole, so they play chicken with me. If people could report the biggest potholes, maybe we can get them repaired.

Inq_Photo-5Mosholu at Jerome Avenue and all the way down. It’s bad there every year. Every winter it’s the same. Van Cortlandt and Bainbridge Avenue, that corner, is always a problem every year. I guess they need better materials to fill the holes. I guess whatever they use is a cheap material and they need to find a better solution. I haven’t seen any road crews making repairs, it’s very rare.

Norwood

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
