How Will The Ice Center Project Impact Armory Area? Voice Your Concerns at Thursday Meeting

To kick off the mandatory land use review process (known as ULURP) for the new ice center project at the Kingsbridge Armory, the city is holding a public scoping meeting at the Bronx Library Center, 310 Kingsbridge Road, just north of Fordham Road.It starts at 5:30 p.m.

The scoping meeting is an opportunity for the community and other stakeholders to voice their concerns about how the neighborhood and community surrounding the Armory will be impacted during and after construction of the world’s largest ice sports facility, known as the Kingsbridge National Ice Center, inside the historic structure.

Those concerns will be taken into consideration when the city determines what the scope of analysis should be when the developer works on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

This is when the process starts to get highly technical and full of complicated jargon. The important thing to note here is that if you have concerns and want a study conducted about how those concerns will play out with the coming project, then speak out at this meeting on Thursday.

The general areas that will be looked at in more depth as part of the draft EIS, include nine areas:

1) Land Use, Zoning, and Public Policy
2) Historic and Cultural Resources
3) Hazardous Materials
4) Water and Sewer Infrastructure
5) Transportation
6) Air Quality
7) Noise
8) Neighborhood Character
9) Construction

If there are specific aspects of these areas that you think warrant a closer inspection, this is your opportunity to have your voice heard.
