Housing Lottery Launches for units at Betances Senior Residence in Mott Haven

An affordable housing lottery has launched for units in Betances Senior Residence, a Passive House senior housing building at 445 East 142nd Street in Mott Haven, as reported by YIMBY.

 

The 12,000 square-foot development is designed by CookFox Architects and is developed by Breaking Ground. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 78 units for residents at 50 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $0 to $53,700.

Amenities include fitness room, computer room, library, a shared laundry room, community room, security guard, and landscaped courtyard outdoor terrace.

 

At 50 percent of the AMI, there are 57 studios with a monthly rental payment of $0, for incomes ranging from $0 to $47,750, and 21 one-bedrooms with a monthly rental payment of $0, for incomes ranging from $0 to $53,700.

 

Prospective renters must meet income and household size requirements in order to apply for these apartments. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than August 9, 2021.

According to NYC Housing Connect, under the affordable housing program, the building is being constructed through the Extremely Low and Low-Income Affordability Program (ELLA) of the New York City Housing Development Corporation, the Senior Affordable Rental Apartments Program (SARA) of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and the NextGeneration NYCHA Program of the New York City Housing Authority.

 

Five percent of units are set aside for those with reduced mobility, 2 percent are set aside for those with vision/hearing difficulties, 33 percent of NYCHA residents are being given a preference of units.
