Hired Babysitter Charged with Whipping Two Young Brothers with Belt after Being Caught on Camera

Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced June 18 that a Brooklyn woman has been charged with second-degree assault and additional charges for allegedly whipping two boys with a belt and a clothes hanger while caring for them in their Morrisania apartment.

Clark said, “The defendant, hired as a babysitter, allegedly struck two young boys multiple times while they screamed in agony. She betrayed their mother’s trust and traumatized the children.”

 

Clark said La’Keysha Jackson, 24, of Van Buren Street, Brooklyn, was indicted on two counts of second-degree Assault, four counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of attempted assault in the second degree, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She said she was arraigned on Wednesday before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Audrey Stone. Bail was set at $75,000 cash/$150,000 bond/$150.000 partially secured bond at 10%. She is due back in court in August.

 

According to the investigation, the defendant, an employee of Selfhelp, a nonprofit social services organization, provided home making services to the family between April 2024 and May 2025 after they were referred by the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) to the Family Home Care program.

 

Jackson was allegedly caught on a home video monitor on May 7, whipping a 6-year-old and 4-year-old with a belt dozens of times. She also allegedly struck the 4-year-old with a pink hanger on three occasions between April 6, 2025, and May 7, 2025. She was also recorded screaming at the children, who were crying. Jackson is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jazmin Vargas, supervisor of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Blair Baker of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau, under the supervision of Johanna Hernandez, deputy chief of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau and Mimi Mairs, chief of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau and under the overall supervision of Adrienne Giunta, deputy chief of special victims division and Joseph Muroff, chief of the special victims division.

Clark thanked Trial Preparation Assistants Aliyana Bonila, and Jaquelin Rodriguez-Dominguez of the of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau for their work on the case, a well as NYPD Detective Eric Droz from the Bronx Child Abuse Squad and NYPD Detective Cesar De Leon from the Bronx Warrant Squad for their work on the investigation.
