Get Paid & Train to Be an EMT with a Private Medical Group, Application Deadline July 10

(L-R) Assemblyman Kenneth Burgos (A.D. 85), Global Medical Response employees and Dan Liebowitz, president of Hunter Ambulance Group host a jobs fair in the Bronx to promote the “Earn While You Learn” training program that pays EMT recruits.

Private medical company, Global Medical Response (GMR), is expanding its recruitment of paid trainees to become full-time emergency medical technicians (EMTs) while they take the necessary training and certification courses. The company announced on Friday, June 25, that it will begin its “Earn While You Learn” recruitment program in New York City beginning in July and is actively seeking applicants.

Bronx Assemblyman Kenny Burgos (A.D. 85) joined GMR officials in hosting a jobs fair at 1028 Freeman Street in Foxhurst on Wednesday, July 7. “We are thrilled that GMR is bringing its award-winning ‘Earn While You Learn’ program to New York City,” said Burgos. “As the economy continues to recover, even as we reopen from the pandemic, the demand for healthcare professionals remains at an all-time high. This program is an equitable, innovative solution to this problem, filling these critical positions and creating careers in the process.”

GMR hopes to hire at least 80 EMT professionals through the program, with a July 10 deadline for receipt of applications. Company representatives said their comprehensive program is an exciting opportunity for New Yorkers who want to begin a rewarding career in emergency medical services and get paid as they train to become EMTs.

GMR is already accepting applications for its first program which begins July 26. EMTs who graduate from the program will be eligible to work for GMR, Hunter Ambulance Group or CrowdRx.

In May, GMR acquired Hunter Ambulance Group, one of the largest private ambulance providers in the New York City metro area, serving all five boroughs, Nassau and Suffolk counties and several of the largest hospital systems in the area. All-Transit, an operating entity of Hunter, provides staff and resources to the New York City Transit Authority’s Access-A-Ride para-transit transportation program, which provides transportation for mobility-impaired individuals across the City.

Thomas Maxian, GMR president for the northeast region, said the company was continuing to develop exciting, lifelong career paths, thanks to what he called creative partnerships such as with Hunter Ambulance and CrowdRx. “GMR’s innovative ‘Earn While You Learn’ program has already helped hundreds of people from Massachusetts to Michigan become EMTs, and now New Yorkers can take advantage of this program to launch a new, rewarding career while getting paid,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dan Leibowitz, president of Hunter Ambulance Group said the group was excited for the new partnership to get off to a strong start by adding 80 additional EMTs to their workforce of 550 across New York City and Long Island. “Programs like ‘Earn While You Learn’ will ensure we can continue to provide the outstanding pre-hospital healthcare New Yorkers and our healthcare partners have become accustomed to,” he said.

According to GMR officials, CrowdRx is also part of the GMR family of companies and provides high-profile event medical support at various New York City sites and landmarks like Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium, Lincoln Center, Rockefeller Center, and the U.S. Open.

EMT graduates will have the opportunity to work for American Medical Response (AMR), Hunter Ambulance or CrowdRx. AMR is another subsidiary of GMR. According to the company, since launching the ‘Earn While You Learn Program’ in Buffalo, NY in 2018, over 500 EMS professionals have graduated from the program. GMR officials said the program has made a career in emergency medical services more accessible to a wider range of people by ensuring candidates are financially stable while they train.

According to GMR, the program has also been recognized by the American Ambulance Association in the “Best Employee Programs” category. Similar programs have also been launched in Alabama, Buffalo, Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee.

All training costs are covered, and upon successful completion of the program and obtainment of state certification, graduates are promoted to EMT-B with a competitive pay rate increase.

As above, interested applicants should apply via the GMR Careers Page by July 10, 2021 at https://careers-gmr.icims.com/jobs/17823/emt-academy/job and the academy will begin July 26, 2021. Subsequent academies will soon follow and interested applicants are encouraged to apply.
