FURTHER UPDATE Police Confirm 21-Year-Old Norwood Woman Has Been Found

Police confirmed on Wednesday, July 28, that a 21-year-old woman who had been reported missing on Thursday had been found in good health and condition.

Norwood News received initial unconfirmed reports on Thursday, July 22, that police were searching for a 21-year-old woman in Norwood. The woman in question was reported missing at around 7.25 p.m., according to posts on the Citizen’s App and on social media. The NYPD later confirmed the missing person’s report on Friday morning.

Citizen’s App users initially reported on Thursday that police were searching for the girl and that the incident had been reported at Hull Avenue and East 204th Street in Norwood.

The users said police described the missing woman as a 21-year-old female, who was White, was 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and had red box braids. She had last been seen wearing a purple t-shirt, navy blue shorts, and a bracelet with her parents’ phone number on it. A Citizen user asked in the post if anyone had seen “Olivia.”

Norwood News checked with the NYPD press office at police headquarters on Thursday night if they had any official missing person’s report on file.

They confirmed they did not, as of midnight on July 22, and the 52nd precinct which covers Norwood had not circulated any missing person’s alert on social media by midnight on Thursday either. It should be noted that local precincts can be aware of incidents as they unfold but need time to investigate before they provide official details to the press office.

Anna Saporito, who said she was a friend of the missing woman’s mother contacted Norwood News on Thursday night via email and provided a link to an Instagram post which appeared to be from the missing woman’s mother, though the name of the missing person was not mentioned and the name of the mother was not immediately obvious.

The post included a photo which was apparently of the missing woman. At the time, Norwood News was unable to verify if the information provided was accurate or not. In the post, the woman described her daughter as being 22 years old, not 21.

Meanwhile, Norwood News asked Saporito for more information about the circumstances of the missing woman, and confirmed that no official missing person’s report was at the time on file at police headquarters. We asked for a contact phone number for the missing person’s mother in order to try to authenticate the post.

In the meantime, police confirmed on Friday morning, July 23, that they were seeking the public’s assistance in locating Olivia Crumrine, 21, of 3079 Hull Avenue in the Norwood section of the Bronx, who had been reported missing in the 52nd precinct the previous evening. We asked police for clarification of Crumrine’s age given the disparity between the two sources. They re-confirmed 21.

According to the official police report, Crumrine had last been seen on Thursday, July 22, at approximately 5.30 p.m. inside her home. She was described as being approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. Police confirmed she had indeed last been seen wearing a purple shirt, navy shorts with white lining, and grey crocs. They also provided photos of Crumrine which appeared to match the physical characteristics of the person seen in the photos circulated on social media the previous evening, though they were not the same photos.

Later on Friday morning, Norwood News was contacted by a person who confirmed being the woman’s mother, Julie May. She thanked everyone who assisted with the search for her daughter and confirmed she had been located and was unharmed.

We also received separate messages on social media confirming this.

To avoid any confusion, we double-checked with police if it was the case, and as of that time, they were unable to confirm as they had not received any new information. We suggested that May contact police to update them.

On Wednesday, July 28, we received formal confirmation from police that indeed Crumrine had been found and was in good health and condition.
