Montefiore Health System held an event at One Fordham Plaza in the Belmont section of The Bronx on Wednesday, July 15, for first time moms participating in the hospital system’s Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program.
The event brought together first-time moms who are participating in what was described as an evidence-based, home visiting program, a partially federally funded, maternal and child health initiative supported by New York State Department of Health (DOH), Montefiore Home Care, and Montefiore Medical Center.
Montefiore officials said registered nurses build relationships with first-time moms, starting during pregnancy and continuing through the child’s second birthday.
They said the aim is to reduce pre-term births and emergency room visits and to increase breastfeeding and immunization rates. They said the Montefiore NFP program has helped more than 600 families since its inception.
