Farrah Kule Rubin is the new Bronx Community Board 8 district manager. The news was shared with community members at a Bronx Community Board 8 meeting earlier this month.

Rubin starts her new role effective June 5, according to the board, and replaces Ciara Gannon, who was promoted to director of community boards at the Office of the Bronx Borough President by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson in recent weeks.

According to Bronx Community Board 8, Rubin has extensive experience working in State and City government where she has previously served as director of constituent services and community outreach for former District 13 City Council Member Mark Gjonaj.

They said Rubin is leaving her position as project coordinator at the Simon Wiesenthal Center for the NYC Education Department of the Museum of Tolerance.

Reacting to Rublin’s appointement, Laura Spalter, chair of Bronx Community Board 8, said, “Farrah Kule Rubin is a local resident whose broad supervisory experience and years of service working within City and State government will be a tremendous asset to our constituents.”

The board covers the neighborhoods of Fieldston, Kingsbridge, Kingsbridge Heights, Marble Hill, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, and Van Cortlandt Village. Click here for details of upcoming Bronx Community Board 8 meetings.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
