Election 2020 – Local Election Round-Up

The following is an overview of some of the more pertinent, local election results released so far in the Northwest Bronx general election races (as well as a few others) held on Election Day, Nov. 3, 2020. 

Bronx Judicial Election Updates

Wanda Negron won with 54.5 percent of the vote in the general election for New York City Civil Court Bronx 2nd Municipal Court District. There was no incumbent. She previously defeated Linda Poust Lopez in the primary.The count for other Bronx judicial races, including three seats in the Supreme Court 12th Judicial District race has not yet been finalized.

City Councilman Andrew Cohen for the 11th District (Dem) won 29.6 percent of the vote, the Hon. Bianka Perez (Dem) won 29.87 percent of the vote, the Hon. Kim A. Wilson (Dem) won 32.51 percent of the vote, Orlando Molina, an attorney, (Rep) won 7.83 percent of the vote, and 0.19 percent of votes went to a write in candidate(s).

 

Congress

Incumbent, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, won in the general election for U.S. House New York District 13 defeating Lovelynn Gwinn (Republican Party) and Christopher Morris-Perry (Conservative Party).

 

Incumbent, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Dem) won, with 68.8 percent of the vote, in the general election for U.S. House New York District 14, defeating John Cummings (Rep, Con), Michelle Caruso-Cabrera (Serve America Movement Party) and Antoine Tucker (Rep) (Write-in).

 

City Councilman Ritchie Torres (Democratic Party) has been elected to Congress in the 15th congressional district race, winning 88.2 percent of the vote and defeating Patrick Delices (Republican Party, Conservative Party).

 

Jamaal Bowman (Democratic Party) won in the general election for U.S. House New York District 16, defeating Patrick McManus (Conservative Party).

State Assembly

 

Incumbent, Assemblyman José Rivera, (D) defeated Michael Dister (R) and Francisco Spies (Write In) in the general election for New York State Assembly District 78, with 85.6 percent of the vote.
Incumbent, Assemblywoman Chantel Jackson, (Dem) defeated Donald Skinner (Rep), Dion Powell (Con), and Isabel Sonia Fernandez in the general election for New York State Assembly District 79 on November 3, 2020, with 89.5 percent of the vote.

 

Incumbent, Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez, (Democratic Party) defeated Gene DeFrancis (Republican Party) and Elizabeth Perri (Conservative Party) in the general election for New York State Assembly District 80, winning 77.5 percent of the vote.

 

Incumbent, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (Dem), defeated Nicole Torres (Rep) and Alan Reed (Con) in the general election for New York State Assembly District 81, with 78.4 percent of the vote.

State Senate

Incumbent, State Sen. Luis Sepulveda (Dem), defeated Jonathon Weiner (Rep) and in the general election for New York State Senate District 32, with 95.2 percent of the vote.

 

Incumbent, State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi (Dem) defeated James Gisondi (Rep) and Antonio Vitiello (Con) in the general election for New York State Senate District 34, with 70.6 percent of the vote.
