District 14 City Council Member Pierina Sanchez hosted a community block party on Morris Avenue between 181st Street and Burnside Avenue in Fordham Heights on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., with free food, music and access to various resources.

 

As the event took place during the summer heatwave, some kids were seen cooling off with water sprayed from a nearby fire hydrant.

Meanwhile, members of the City’s test and trace taskforce gave out goodie bags, including test kits and other health-related resources, and a number of other elected officials also made an appearance on the day, including Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), Socrates Solano, Democratic district leader for the 86th Assembly District, and Assemblywoman for A.D. 86, Yudelka Tapia.

Among others who joined Sanchez, who has since given birth, on the day were Miguelina Camilo, candidate for redrawn State Senate District 33 in the August 2022 primaries.

New York City Commission on Human Rights staffer, Ayyad Algabyali, was also in attendance, giving out information on New Yorkers’ human rights and information on such matters as getting hired with a criminal record.

As reported, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark had previously held a resource fair for the formerly incarcerated to help job seekers overcome such obstacles.
