UPDATE Bridge, Street Closures & General Transportation Updates for The Bronx from July 22 to August 31

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the NYPD have advised of the following street and bridge closures in The Bronx and Manhattan from July 22  to Aug. 31.   McClellan Street between Gerard Avenue and River Avenue: This street will be closed Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through July 31, for crane operation, concrete pump, telehandler and Knuckle boom.   East 149th Street (Service Road) between Exterior Street and Dead End: This street will be fully closed 24/7 through Aug. 16, for access and use.   Grand Concourse (Service Road) between Major Deegan Expressway Northbound

Bronx DA: NYS Court of Appeals Upholds Conviction in Murder of Toddler on Easter Sunday 2006

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Thursday, July 21, that the New York State Court of Appeals affirmed on Thursday the conviction of Darrell Hemphill for the fatal shooting of 2-year-old David Pacheco on Easter Sunday, 2006.   Clark said, “We are pleased to see this conviction upheld. Allerton: 18-Year-Old from Webster Avenue Arrested following April Fatal Shooting of 21-Year-Year Old

Bronx Teacher Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Rape of 13-Year-Old Student

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Thursday, July 21, that a Bronx teacher has been sentenced to three years in prison and 10 years post release supervision for raping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl who was one of his students.   In the context of the announcement, Clark said, “The defendant used his position of power to engage in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl. UPDATE Norwood: Neighbor Arrested following Fatal Stabbing of 35-Year-Old Man

  Police said a 19-year-old male youth has been arrested on murder charges following the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old man in Norwood on Thursday.   The victim was murdered on Thursday afternoon, July 21, amid a thunderstorm and downpour. A witness said police attempted to save the man following the stabbing to the chest but he was later pronounced deceased. UPDATE NWS Issues Thunderstorm Warning for Thursday, July 21 until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for July 21 until 8 p.m. for The Bronx, Queens, Manhattan Southeastern Bergen and Southern Westchester and a severe flash flood warning until 6 p.m.   NWS said a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. on July 21 for The Bronx, Manhattan and Southeastern Bergen and Westchester Counties.   At 12.52 p.m., the thunderstorm was located over Rutherford, and was moving east at 15 mph. A hazard of 60 mph wind gusts and one inch size hail is possible according to indicators from an NWS radar.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is reminding veterans of the number to call to reach the veterans crisis helpline. The number to dial is 988, then press 1.
