Memorial Service Held for Slain NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia

A memorial ceremony was held outside the 46thtPrecinct stationhouse on July 5 to honor the late NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia, who had been assigned to the 46th Precinct when she was fatally shot by parolee Alexander Bonds on July 5, 2017, while sitting in her police vehicle after completing an overnight shift. Bonds was reported to have had a history of mental illness according to the Detectives’ Endowment Association and had posted on social media about killing police before the incident. They said he was shot by responding police after a foot pursuit.

In Election 2024, based on polling data and supporting policies important to the LGBTQ+ community, Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden shows a leg up on former U.S. President and Republican presidential nominee for 2024, Donald Trump, with LGTBQ+ voters. “LGTBQ+ voters are key in the 2024 Election,” said Kelley Robinson, president of The Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ+ right groups in the United States. “We’re going to be the deciding factor.”

Workers for “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress” announced on June 10 the ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement. They said the wall-to-wall bargaining unit, represented by the Campaign Workers Guild (CWG), includes all non-managerial staff, including employees in part-time, hourly, and full-time roles.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Council Finance Chair Justin Brannan, members of the City Council, and senior members of the Adams administration announced an agreement on Friday, June 28, for an on-time, balanced, and fiscally-responsible $112.4 billion adopted budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025.
