An off-duty, New York City Police Department employee was arrested and charged in the 45th precinct in the early hours of Saturday morning, Dec. 11.   Edwin Jerez, a 37-year-old male NYPD lieutenant was charged with driving while his ability to drive was impaired (DWAI). The 45th precinct serves a portion of the northeastern section of the Bronx, encompassing Co-op City and City Island.   According to police public records, Jerez joined the NYPD as a police officer in 2006, was promoted to sergeant in 2014 and became a lieutenant in March 2021.
