Bronx Former Attorney Pleads Guilty To Large-Scale Immigration Fraud

A Bronx-based former immigration attorney, Kofi Amankwaa, pled guilty to immigration fraud in federal court on Sept. 17 in connection with his supervision of a multi-year scheme to file fraudulent immigration documents under the Violence Against Women Act (“VAWA”), federal prosecutors said. As reported in January, Attorney General Letitia James sued Amankwaa and other lawyers for scamming immigrants.

District Council 9 Painters & Allied Trades to Conduct Glazier Apprenticeship Recruitment in October

District Council 9 (DC9) Finishing Trades Institute of New York will be conducting a formal glazier apprentice recruitment campaign starting Oct. 8. According to Indeed, glaziers are responsible for cutting, fitting, installing and repairing glass and glass substitutes into a variety of fixtures and locations.The recruitment campaign is being conducted at the union’s training center in Long Island City, NY, will cover the New York City, Long Island, and Hudson Valley regions, and last until Oct. 21.

Feds Offer Circa $10M for Info on 3 Iranians Charged with Trying to Influence 2024 U.S. Presidential Election

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday, Sept. 27 it is offering up to $10 million for information on three Iranian nationals and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) employees, Masoud Jalili, 36,  also known as, مسعود جلیلی, Seyyed Ali Aghamiri, 34, also known as, سید علی آقامیری, and Yaser Balaghi, 37, also known as, یاسر بلاغی (the conspirators), charged with trying to influence the 2024 U.S. presidential election.   

UPDATE Bronx Community District 7 Residents Disappointed with Delays in CB7 Parks’ Budget Requests

Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7) Parks committee spent much of their September meeting discussing the district’s needs from a parks, recreation and cultural affairs perspective, in preparation for the City’s budget discussions next year. Since many of CB7’s capital and expense requests previously submitted last year to various city agencies have been pending for several years, some residents voiced their concern and frustration at the delays in actioning those requests.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the United Teachers Federation (UFT), and others have shared their reactions to the announcement on Tuesday, Sept. 24, by New York Public Schools Commissioner David Banks that he will be retiring effective Dec. 31, this year. The news comes on the back of a slew of other resignations by top Adams administration officials as the mayor gears up for a second term in office, and as he battles to retain the confidence of New Yorkers and strives to maintain calm amid the latest political storm.
