UPDATE Poultry Markets Reopen & Zoo Tackles Bird Flu

Live poultry markets in New York are back open after a five-day closure was implemented by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday, Feb. 7, after the avian flu/bird flu or H5N1 virus was discovered in bird flocks at seven live bird markets in The Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. Officials said the ordered closures were mandated for testing, cleaning and disinfection of poultry markets in New York City, Westchester and Long Island.

UPDATE Belmont: Two Arrested after 56-Year-Old Man Dies in Fatal Shooting on E 187th Street

Police said two people have been arrested on various charges in relation to the killing of a 56-year-old man in Belmont. As reported, police launched a murder investigation after the 56-year-old victim died following a fatal shooting on Monday, Feb. 17, at around 6.21 p.m. Police said officers from the 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a male who had been shot in front of 717 East 187th Street.

UPDATE: No Injuries Reported after DeKalb Ave Fire but 93-Year-Old Widow Awaits Gas Restoration

There were no reported injuries after an early morning, basement fire broke out in a six-story, residential building in Norwood in the early hours of Sunday, Feb. 16, but the fire caused damage to at least two apartments and shocked its residents who were woken up and evacuated amid cold, continuous rain and sleet. The fire alarm in the apartmnt of one 93-year-old widow resident reportedly did not go off and she is still without gas.
