It’s official. Charlie Rangel is the newest representative of the Bronx. Obviously, we’ll have more on this in the coming days, weeks, months, years. Reactions to the voter turnout in Norwood range from “just all right” to “pretty good” to “amazing” for today’s primary elections. The neighborhood is just one of several in the northwest Bronx that are now included in the new 13th Congressional district. (Northern Manhattan makes up the majority of the district; Rep. Charlie Rangel is running for re-election.) The scene at MS 80 on Moshulo Parkway, where about 90 Bronxites had voted as of 5:45 p.m., was quiet. The Norwood News will be out and about today, talking to primary voters in the 13th Congressional District, which now stretches from East Harlem into the northwest Bronx neighborhoods of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, University Heights and Marble Hill (technically part of Manhattan, but we consider them one of our own).

One day until the June 26 primary that will change the face of Bronx politics. Despite there being the formality of a general election in November, tomorrow’s Democratic primary will determine who will become the Bronx’s newest representative in Congress. That’s because no Republican candidate has a chance against whichever Democratic candidate emerges victorious in the newly constituted 13th Congressional District, which stretches from El Barrio into the northwest Bronx and shares a common blue blood.
