The NYPD has charged a Brooklyn man in connection with the slashing of a teen on a Bronx subway on Friday, March 19, at 4 p.m.

According to NYPD spokeswoman and Detective Annette Shelton, officers from the 46th Precinct were called to the Fordham Road Station of the IND D-Train, located at East 188th Street and the Grand Concourse in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx.

Shelton said of the incident, “A 16-year-old male victim reported to police that he was onboard a northbound D train when the defendant dropped a bicycle on his foot, and when the train came to a stop at the station and the doors opened, he was approached from behind and was stabbed in the abdomen.”

The victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and was expected to recover.

Shelton continued, “The defendant fell onto the tracks and fled into the subway tunnel, but was apprehended by responding officers.” A switchblade knife was recovered at the scene.

Police arrested and charged Nelson Rivera, 40, from the Marine Park section of Brooklyn with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and trespassing as he allegedly entered the MTA tunnel during his escape.

A person arrested and accused of a crime is innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
