Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Friday, March 27, that a Bronx man was indicted on attempted murder in the second-degree, assault, and other related charges for allegedly hitting six pedestrians with his vehicle in the South Bronx in July 2025, and then fleeing the scene.

 

“This defendant allegedly struck six pedestrians, one in the roadway and five on a sidewalk,” Clark said. “The injuries to two of the victims were so severe they experience pain and limited mobility to this day.”

 

The district attorney said the defendant, Willie Joe Delgado, 23, of East 163rd Street, The Bronx, was arraigned on March 25, before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Pamela Goldsmith on 22 charges: two counts of attempted murder in the second-degree, first-degree assault, four counts of second-degree assault, three counts of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of reckless driving and eight counts of third-degree falsely reporting an incident.

 

“Bail was set at $30,000 cash/$100,000 insurance company bond/$100,000 partially secured bond at 10%,” a spokesperson for the DA’s office said. Delgado is due back in court in June.

 

According to the investigation, at around 10.50 a.m. on July 3, 2025, Delgado was driving a silver 2007 Ford Mustang in the vicinity of East 149th Street and Courtlandt Avenue. Prosecutors said that as Delgado was waiting to make a left turn, he allegedly drove into a pedestrian who was crossing the street then drove his car onto a nearby sidewalk striking five other individuals.

 

The court heard that he allegedly drove away from the scene, abandoned his vehicle, and called police to report that his car had been stolen. Five victims suffered injuries, according to officials from the DA’s office who said one victim continues to suffer lower back pain due to having been hit by the car. They said a 79-year-old female victim had to undergo surgery and spent several months recovering from her injuries in a rehabilitation facility. They said she currently uses a wheelchair.

 

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney LaShuana Cole under the supervision of Lawrence Piergrossi, chief of Trial Bureau 50 and Jeffrey Kimelman, chief of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau and under the overall supervision of James Brennan, deputy chief of Trial Division and Terry Gottlieb, chief of Trial Division.

 

Clark thanked Trial Preparation Assistant Meybelline Pennyfeather and Trial Assistant Abigay Wynter for their assistance with the case, along with NYPD Detective John Eller of the 40th Precinct Detective Squad who worked on the investigation.

 

Delgado is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
