Bedford Park Man Arrested on Murder Charges following Fatal Shooting of 20-Year-Old in Belmont

POLICE SAID A 25-year-old man from Bedford Park has been arrested in connection with the murder investigation of a 20 year-old-man that took place at 717 East 178th Street in the Belmont section of The Bronx on July 27, 2022.

Police said a 25-year-old man from Bedford Park has been arrested in connection with the murder investigation of a 20 year-old-man that took place in Belmont on July 27.

 

A police spokesperson said, “On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at approximately 0409 hours, police responded to a male shot in front of 717 East 187 Street, within the confines of the 48 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 20-year-old male unconscious and unresponsive, with two gunshot wounds to the head, and one gunshot wound to his hip.”

 

They said EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. There were no initial arrests and the investigation remained ongoing.

 

The deceased has been identified as Jayshua Nivar, 20, of The Bronx.

 

On Aug. 12, police said Aro Matos, 25, of Bedford Park was arrested in connection to the incident. He has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
