There were no injuries reported but local residents were left shaken after shots were fired in broad daylight on what is a relatively quiet residential street in Bedford Pak, 11 days after Gun Violence Awareness Month wrapped up, and as the City continues to see a general decline in shootings.
Police said the incident, described as “reckless endangerment,” unfolded when it was reported to police on Friday, July 11, at around 5 p.m. that an unidentified person had discharged a firearm in the vicinity of 172 East 205nd Street, located between East Mosholu Parkway South and the Grand Concourse.

“No injuries were reported as a result of this incident,” a police spokesperson said. “There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.”
One local resident told Norwood News they believe the shooting may have been a targeted hit / gang related. We are unable to confirm this but have reached out to police for more information and will share any updates we receive.

In recent months, there was an unconfirmed report of squatters living in or operating from one residential building on the same block of East 205th Street, and a weapons seizure which took place around the corner from the street on the Grand Concourse in March.

As above, gun violence remains on a downward trend generally across New York City according to the latest June statistics, where there was a 23-24% decline in both shooting incidents and shooting victims during the first half of 2025 compared to last year.
Gun violence rates as of July 6 for the 46th Precinct, which broadly covers some or all of Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mt. Hope, the 50th Precinct, which broadly covers some or all of Kingsbridge, Fieldston, Riverdale, Marble Hill, and Spuyten Duyvil, and the 52nd Precinct, which broadly covers Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Bronx Park, and University Heights, are attached.
